Senior Software Engineer

Remote Engineering €58,000 - €62,000

About Spiffing

Spiffing is the team behind PerformanceGuardian—the web performance platform for the AI age. Our vision is to empower every engineer to be a performance engineer. We are a small, fully remote team that values respect, collaboration, and quality.

The company’s office is located in Malta, E.U.

The role

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer with extensive experience in web performance. The ideal candidate should have experience leading a team and driving company-wide web performance initiatives. If you are looking for an opportunity to make an impact on the web performance landscape, Spiffing might be the perfect place for you.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will drive the team’s technical direction and align it with the company’s vision. In this role, you’ll serve as the primary decision-maker on technical matters, championing best practices while actively removing blockers to ensure the team can deliver effectively. Beyond maintaining high execution standards, you will spearhead innovation by introducing new technologies and approaches, which includes staying at the forefront of the industry by reading and understanding the latest AI and Machine Learning research into actionable strategies.

The role is full-time (~40 hours per week).

The team is 100% remote and async-first. Please read our handbook to understand how we work.

The tech stack

The tech stack is constantly evolving, but currently includes:

  • SvelteKit/Svelte
  • JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Express/Node.js
  • Playwright/Chrome DevTools Protocol
  • Docker
  • AWS

Don’t worry if you don’t have experience with all of these technologies. We are looking for someone eager to learn and grow with us.

What we value

  • A team leader who is a great communicator, can give and receive feedback, mentor juniors, and lead by example.
  • Someone with good product taste who is capable of making product decisions.
  • A technical expert who is highly knowledgeable in web performance and browser APIs.
  • A person who is comfortable with async communication and can work effectively in a remote environment.
  • The ability to deliver high-quality software with an eye for detail and a focus on user experience.
  • Someone who is comfortable speaking with customers and taking responsibility for the team’s work.

What we require

  • At least 7 years of work experience in software development.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • A strong understanding of web performance, web technologies, and browser APIs.

You might not be a good fit if

  • You cannot lead a team or take responsibility for the team’s work.
  • You are disinterested in product decisions or do not have good product taste.
  • You prefer to work synchronously in an office.
  • You are not comfortable discussing your work with your colleagues.
  • The expectation to deliver high-quality software is too much pressure.
